I was born in a coastal town, Chigasaki city in Japan. In my childhood, copses and rice fields still existed near my house. I was a girl who did not have any dolls like Barbie but spent time outside with my friends. We built a secret base and tried to find an entrance to a different world. I also spent a lot of time alone at home as I did not have many kids the same age near my house. I drew my original manga characters, read many books and watching many animation TV shows and movies. My creativity was formed by such an environment.
It was my uncle who believed in my talent for art. However, nobody thought that I would become a ceramicist in another country. It was an unexpected shift that I am a ceramicist now.
Clay has made me re-realise that I belong to the earth and feel a connection with it. I also enjoy learning like the sorcerer’s apprentice to be playful and break the rules of ceramics while I am learning its disciplines.
I love to make both practical ceramics to make our daily life fulfilling, as well as more abstract pieces that represent my interests. My work usually relates to the communication and interaction between different species. Our world is still bizarre and full of things which stimulate my curiosity.
